Review: .idk & Joey Bada$$ "DENiM" Review

.idk and Joey Bada$$'s collaboration adds to the list of unexpected events in hip-hop just three months into the new year. Amidst what many fans are calling a "rap civil war" between Future, Drake, J.cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Metro Boomin, as well as a second wind from Playboi Carti and Kanye West, 2024 is shaping up to be a very intersting year for rap music. .idk and Joey Bada$$ add to the frenzy with their latest release "DENiM", which dropped March 29, 2024.

Announced via Instagram on March 24, 2024, .idk and Joey Bada$$ seem like an unlikely pairing. With .idk hailing from the DMV and Joey from East Flatbush in Brooklyn, NY, the energy, lyricism, and production of this collaboration showcases these two to be a great duo. This was evident with the release of the song. .idk did most of the heavy lifting when it came to promotion and the pair appeared on a special "From the Block" performance uploaded to youtube on March 27th. One of the biggest challenges of this type of project is for the two artists to mesh seamlessly, and it seems that .idk and Joey Bada$$ understood that perfectly.

As far as the track itself goes, "DENiM" delivers two hard-hitting verses with a production style that allows both featured artists to shine through a simplistic, consistent beat. .idk takes the hook after both his own verse and Joey's verse. The single has a run time of two minutes and 57 seconds: a short but effective move. "DENiM" provides the listener with a fleeting, yet enjoyable listen that has great replay value.

As of right now, there is no word on a joint album, but the possibility is always there, given the love shown from both fan bases. We certainly hope "DENiM" isn't the last time we see a collaboration between .idk and Joey Bada$$.
